What’s a good secluded Florida beach that is warm in mid-March?

Rusty Ryan asked:

I’m looking into going somewhere in Florida in mid-March with my wife, and I don’t want to deal with spring break crowds. I don’t necessarily need to be staying in the only hotel on the beach, but I want someplace kind of secluded. Any suggestions? Any hotel suggestions?

Try Captiva or Sanibel Island – it’s southwest Florida. Absolutley beautiful and it’s usually older folks that go there, and I’ve never seen a beach there that’s crowded (there are several different designated beaches to go to). Bowman’s Beach happens to be my favorite, but all are nice there. There are nice restaurants and some small mom pop type gift shops, but not overly touristy. Google Captiva Island and you will be able to pull up a map, hotels, etc.

If you don’t want to deal with spring breakers AVOID THESE BEACHES AT ALL COSTS: Ft. Myers (west coast), Panama City (panhandle), Daytona Beach, Miami, Cocoa Beach and pretty much any other beach on the east coast. I live in southwest Florida and my sister lives in southeast Florida (just north of Miami). The west coast where I am, generally speaking, is quieter and lax, while the east coast has a higher population and lots of action – bars, clubs, crowded beaches and hotels, etc.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions.

Addition: I see the first person said Marco Island – also a great place to go as well.

Pompano Public Beach. It doesn’t get nearly as crowded as Ft. Lauderdale’s beach. It is close to Ft. Lauderdale if you want to go shopping on the boardwalk or for out dinner.
