My wife and I visiting the Florida Keys in about a month?

I’m flying into Fort Lauderdale, and the driving the rest of the way, what are some offbeat and unique shops, restaurants, attractions, etc. that might interest me along the way? I’m 40 years old, and The Misfits will probably be blaring from the car radio as I’m driving, so when I say offbeat and unique I’m not kidding.

Go to The Wooden Spoon for breakfast if you can. It’s a little off the wall place and your wife will love it since it is owned by a bunch of women and there are cool spoons decorating the entire place. It’s great with the locals too. It’s around Marathon and is great! Also, stop at John Penecamp State Park for snorlking if you can. I know that’s pretty run of the mill tourist thing to do, but it is an experience of a lifetime if you haven’t done it before. The Dolphin Research Center is great. A bit expensive, but personally I think it is worth the donations to see the shows and if you want to swim with the dolphins you can there too. (they also have a cat sanctuary). Also, everyone stops at The Shell Factory- you can check that out. It’s pretty touristy though. I’m thinking you’ll also pass by Sawgrass Recreational Park 800-457-0788 by Ft. Lauderdale. You can take a fan boat ride there to see aligators and wildlive in the everglades and they also have a Nature Preserve. If you don’t have a place to stay yet in Key West, there are some great bed and breakfasts. Something near Duval Street though. Like The Marrero house (it’s haunted) I would definately advise those over hotels. However, research them first, since your choice should be reflective of your lifestyle comfort level. Have Fun!!!
