Where to stay when visiting Everglades National Park?

I’m planning an impromptu trip out of the snow of northern NY to the Everglades Park in a few weeks. Are there any clean, inexpensive hotels in the Florida City/Homestead area to stay at for a few days while there? Any other tips on visiting the park would be helpful also.

Yes, but they’re pretty full this time of year. There is no place to stay IN the park (since Hurricane Wilma). Do a Hotels.com search. You can stay in Miami, Coral Gables or Even Miami Beach. It’s not that far by Turnpike. One possibility: The Miccosukee Indian Reservation has a big hotel connected to their casino on the Tamiami Trail off Krome Ave. which is convenient to the park
