Well, I have been fishing for 40 years, both salt and fresh water and I have fished tournaments for large mouth bass and I have placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in tournaments above hundreds of fisherman.
What I found in these past few years is that most lures which work for fresh water fishing also work for salt water fishing which really was a surprise to me because at first, no one ever told me that this would work.
The only difference is the lb test line you use and sometimes the leader, metal vs monofiloment depending on the species of fish you are fishing for because if they have sharp teeth such as a barracuda, then you want to use a metal leader. You even want to work the lure the same in most cases. You should have plenty of success.
There is NO such thing as a lure that will work for ALL fish, all of the time.
In my tackle BOXES, i have many different baits, for many different fishing situations.
In shallow watewr, i prefer topwater, spinner, buzz plastic baits.
in areas of weeds brush, i use baits that are reasonably weedless.
in deeper water, use plastic worms lizzards, as well as diving lures spinner baits
Good luck with your fishing
If you really want an all purpose lure for salt or freshwater it would have to be in the soft plastic category.
Most soft plastic lures can translate from the saltwater marsh to a lake or stream easily, (in Fla).
Also, Spinner-bait’s can be used in fresh or saltwater. You can catch Reds, Spec Trout, Flounder-Bass on the same spinner-bait.
If you are new to the sport and overwhelmed with the expense of tackling your tackle-box concentrate your $ toward Jigs/hooks and soft-plastic lures such as: Worms, Sluggos/Senko’s, plastic Grubs, Swim baits.
Hope this helps ya? Good luck!
I was raised in Ocala, in central Florida but have fished all over the state. My largest tourney fish was an 18 1/2 lb largemouth that I caught on a double bladed, black spinner bait.
I also like fishing Zoom watermellon and pumpkin 6 worms. I usually fish them Carolina style.
